Coach Mentorship Program

Helping coaches build confidence, knowledge and practical skills.

The SEERA Coach Mentorship Program is designed to provide coaches with the direction, support and resources they need to develop and grow throughout the hockey season.

Mentoring can be tailored to the needs of an individual coach, group of coaches, or an entire association. Whether you are a new coach looking for guidance or an experienced coach wanting to refine your skills, our mentorship program can help.

Areas of Support

Coaches can receive guidance and resources in areas including:

  • Practice Planning – Creating effective practices and making the most of available ice time and space.
  • Player & Parent Management – Handling player concerns, parent communication and common coaching challenges.
  • Teaching Hockey Skills – Developing effective techniques for skating, puck handling, passing and shooting.
  • Individual & Team Tactics – Developing hockey sense, systems and game-applicable skills.
  • Practice & Game Evaluation – Reviewing practices and games to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Season Planning – Building a seasonal plan and establishing development goals.
  • Assistant Coach Development – Learning how to effectively utilize and work with coaching staff.

Technical & Tactical Development

Mentorship and coach development sessions can focus on a variety of areas, including:

Skating: Stride, edges, balance, agility, acceleration, turns, transitions, stops and starts.

Puck Skills: Puck control, stickhandling, puck protection, dekes and fakes.

Shooting: Wrist, snap and slap shots, shooting in stride, one-timers and deceptive shooting.

Passing: Forehand and backhand passing, saucer passes, receiving passes and passing in motion.

Game Skills & Tactics: Small-area games, flow drills, individual and team tactics, defensive play, angling, gap control, puck protection, offensive zone entries, cycling, net drives, special teams and faceoffs.

Position-Specific Development: Detailed skill development for specific positions, particularly for older athletes with an established skill foundation.
